Bins & Locations

Creating and organizing bins

Good bin organization is the foundation of efficient warehouse picking. BinHQ lets you create as many bins as you need and organize them in a way that mirrors your physical warehouse layout.

We recommend using a consistent naming convention for your bins. Popular formats include "Aisle-Rack-Shelf" (e.g., A-01-03) or "Zone-Row-Position" (e.g., MAIN-R2-P5). Consistent naming makes it easier for pickers to find locations quickly.

Sort order determines the sequence pickers follow when working through a pick list. Assign sort numbers that follow the natural walking path through your warehouse. You can use increments of 10 (10, 20, 30...) to leave room for inserting new bins later.

You can bulk-edit bin sort orders and names from the Bins page. If your warehouse layout changes, update the sort order to reflect the new walking path.

Syncing locations from Shopify

If you have inventory locations set up in Shopify, BinHQ can sync them automatically. This is useful if you already have a location structure that maps to your physical warehouse.

To sync locations, go to the Bins page and click "Sync from Shopify." BinHQ will pull in your Shopify locations and create corresponding bins. You can then adjust names and sort orders as needed.

New locations created in Shopify after the initial sync can be pulled in at any time by running the sync again. Existing bins will not be duplicated or overwritten.

Keep in mind that Shopify locations are typically broader than warehouse bins (e.g., "Warehouse A" vs. individual shelf positions). You may want to use Shopify sync as a starting point and then create more specific bins within BinHQ.

Printing bin labels

BinHQ can generate printable labels for your bins. Labels include the bin name and an optional barcode that pickers can scan to confirm they are at the correct location.

To print labels, go to the Bins page and select the bins you want to label. Click "Print Labels" and choose your label size. BinHQ supports standard label sizes including 2x4 inch and 4x6 inch formats.

Print the labels using any standard printer and affix them to your warehouse shelving. We recommend laminating labels or using waterproof label stock for durability in warehouse environments.
